A loose dental temporary crown is a common finding in most dental offices. Our Denver dentists cement these temporaries with temporary cement a.k.a. weak cement. The overall idea is for the cement to last the two weeks while the molds of your tooth are being fabricated into your dental crown. It is a simple matter to cement the temporary with a more durable cement but then getting the temp off to cement the porcelain crown would be challenging to say the least.
Denver dentist describes the uses of the temporary dental crown
The temporary dental crownhas many functions. First and foremost is it protect the surface of the tooth that has been exposed in the crown preparation. For many but not all patients this exposed dentin is sensitive to hot and cold. Patients with this type of sensitivity there is not a problem with them returning and getting it re cemented. The issue is when the temp comes off and it is NOT sensitive and the patient is thinking that they do not want to bother us and will just wait until their appointment to have the porcelain crown cemented. While that is thoughtful … it frequently complicated the dental crown seating process. First…. the gum can grow up over the margin on the dental crownpreventing the seating of the crown. The second issue as to do with tooth movement of either the teeth tilting or super-erupting in to the crown preparation space. If left long enough the NEW crown will not fit and have to be re-made.
Toothpaste as a temporary cement
On occasion despite your best intention you are not able to have the temporary re cemented. Using a small amount of toothpaste on the inside of the crown “may” help retain the tooth until you can schedule an appointment. Care must be given not to swallow or inhale the temporary at night while sleeping and it is recommend that it be removed at bedtime

Family dentists teaching at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine
This Friday February 4th all of our Denver Dentists were involved in teaching at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine.Dr. James DeLapp, Dr. H. Candace DeLapp and Dr. Sarah Parson were teaching in the pre-clinical Operative Dentistry course. This course involves the first most basic dental restorations on the chewing surface of the teeth. The teeth were restored with two different restorative material amalgam and composite materials. Amalgam restorations are a satisfactory material that has been used in dentistry for over 100 years. There have been controversies whether justified or unjustified about this material. One thing for certain is it does not look as esthetic as the composite or white dental fillings.
White dental fillings Denver
White dental fillings is a material that has been around for many years that has gained popularity. Technically it is much more sensitive to placement than amalgam restorations. Rubber dam placement or moisture control is critical. As a general rule it is built up in increments and is bonded to the tooth. The esthetics is substantially improved over the amalgam restorations.

Denver dentists Dr. Sarah Parsons andDr. H. Candace DeLapp on occasion have parents who are concerned that an adult or permanent tooth has not erupted after the loss on one or several baby teeth. The good news is congenitally missing teeth is uncommon and most of the time there is just a delay in the permanent tooth pushing up into the mouth.
What if the permanent tooth is missing and not formed?
If the tooth is missing there is little our Denver dental office can do. At this time there is no way to “grow” a tooth that was not there. What we can do is start planning on how this will be replaced once all the permanent teeth have come in. In most but not all cases this decision is delay until the child becomes 18 years or so. There are many elements that enter into this decision that an entire article could be devoted to this topic
How do we tell if a tooth is missing
In most cases some type of dental x-ray is needed. This may either be a routine dental x-rayor some type of Panoramic radiograph.

Denver Mid-Winter Dental Convention this week
This week is the is the Denver Mid-Winter Dental Convention. This is one of the opportunities that our Denver dentists take to improve and refine their knowledge. The courses and meetings are held at the Convention Center in Denver and offers a wide range of educational offerings.
The answer to this question depends on what ultimately the problem is. Denver dentists Dr. Sarah Parsons and Dr.’s James and H. Candace DeLapp have one strong recommendation… get in ASAP. If it is something as simple as the crown cement getting loose then cementing again with dental cement is the first priority. Sometime dental cavitiescan sneak underneath the crown and weaken the tooth and the crown falls off. This involves re-making the crown and in severe instances may result in loosing the tooth.

Call our Denver dentists Immediately
Your best bet is to call and see a our Denver area dental office immediately. If you leave the dental crown off the tooth because it does not hurt your teeth ”will” move! The question is how much and how fast. If the tooth moves we “may not” be able to place the same crown on the tooth. Spaces can become narrower or the upper toothcan erupt into the empty space and there in not enough room for the crown to fit in to. In “many” instances we need to fabricate the dental crown.
Temporary Placing the crown back on the tooth.
There are many different temporary dental cements that you can use. Some you can purchase at the Drug store. You can even use tooth paste as a temporary adhesive. Our recommendation is to take the crown out at night so you do not swallow (or inhale) the dental crown.

Denver Cosmetic Dentists offerings
What our cosmetic dentists have found that while stained teeth can age our smile… teeth over bleached or veneers too white smile can look out of place as we age. As we age our teeth tend to get shorter with wear from normal or parafunctional habits of clenching and grinding.. Restoring your original tooth length may be one of the many effective solutions. Laugh lines and wrinkles can sometimes be mitigated by using dental techniques to fill out these facial areas.
Turning artistic inspiration into reality
Teeth whitening is one of the simplest and most popular procedures for revitalizing your smile. Many studies show that most of us perceive a brighter smile to be more youthful and attractive. If this ends up not being effective… dental veneers can be applied to widen or lengthen your teeth. What you need to decide is if cosmetic dental procedures are well worth the investment to restore the proportions your face was meant to have.

Less Dental Insurance Plans Pay Less and Cover Less
As a general rule of thumb… the less expensive your plan is to your employer the less types of treatment will be covered. In most instance the year benefit will be less and you may be restricted to a small list of providers. In some dental plans the fees paid to the dental office are heavily discounted and the office finds it difficult to provide custom dental services.
Choose carefully during the benefits season
It seems like the Fall is the time in which employees can switch their benefits plan. Take care to pick a plan that will meet your needs and expectations.
